The Decatur–DeKalb Retired Educators Association (DDREA) was organized in the Spring of 1959 by Pauline Burks as the Decatur/DeKalb/Rockdale Retired Teachers Association. The unit name was officially changed in 1998 to Decatur-DeKalb Retired Educators Association to align itself with the Georgia Retired Educators Association (GREA), with Rockdale organizing a separate chapter. The DDREA unit has produced five state presidents:

The unit purchased commemorative bricks for the Georgia Educators Museum (GEM) in honor of each GREA President who came from this unit. DDREA currently has a membership of more than 200 retired educators and supporters.
DDREA continues to meet monthly. Our meetings are informative, fun and provide us an opportunity to fellowship with peers. We also support new and aspiring educators through various programs. We are especially proud of our success in providing academic scholarships for educators who demonstrate a passion for the discipline.
